Green basic scarf from Martha Stewart

photo of scarfThis is the first thing I started knitting when I took it back up in September / October 2005. Apologies for the poor image quality, but with a flash it just wiped everything out. And that’s Dakota trying out the scarf.

I originally picked up the needles with several rows of stockinette stitch already on and started going. I decided I didn’t really want a plain grey scarf (I was using the same yarn that the knitted kitty was made with) nor did I like the curled edge. So I went to the yarn shop and picked out some green and purple without any pattern in mind and with zero knowledge of the different types or weights of yarn (although I could obviously see there was chunky and eyelash for example).

I came home and scoured the web for some scarf patterns and found some great sites with loads of patterns - particularly Knitting Pattern Central. I wanted something simple since I was starting out, but with some sort of pattern to make it interesting. This was it - the basic scarf from Martha Stewart.
