First, let me apologise if you go and read older posts. They’re really dry and boring as the whole intent of this knitting blog was to chronicle my progression as a knitter and not really for public consumption. But even when I started this blog, I was hopelessly addicted to reading other knitting blogs and now I’ve started leaving comments which makes me want to make sure that there is something slightly entertaining here and also more wont to keep it up-to-date.

The up-to-datedness of the last few days is really due to the fact that I have been home with a cold all week. And as awesome as this might be because of all the knitting I could potentially do (instead of daydreaming about it whilst sat at my desk), I just am having bad knitting luck. I ripped out the hat I started and could’ve finished. I re-cast-on thinking that despite the million stitches, I’d do magic loop since my Boye interchangeables are making me unhappy (more on that later), but really, it was quite difficult to manage a million stitches on an 80cm circular needle so I ripped that out too and gave in and bought more hat friendly lengths of circular needles in small needle sizes.

Now, I love the Boye interchangeables when I’m doing something with a heftier wool, but plastic sleeve that holds the needle join onto the cable is too big when it comes to finer wools. I’m not even talking lace weight or anything. This is DK weight Debbie Bliss Cotton Cashmere. It’s annoying that the smallest needle size in the Boye’s is a US2 and that’s all fine and good, but the flippin’ yarn has to be forced over that little plastic bump. It doesn’t make knitting, even stockinette, flow very well when every 10 or so stitches you have to stop and push the yarn along somewhat forcefully. Yes, I’m a bit of a tight knitter hence generally going down at least one if not two needle sizes than recommended on the ball band, but my stitches aren’t that tight.

So this giant 80cm circular… the Addi Turbo / Premium. It did feel nice. The tips could be a bit pointier I reckon, but the cable itself! Wow! Compared to the Boye’s it’s like liquid. It’s so supple. The Boye’s are really thick and stiff. They’re the only ones I’ve ever used despite the mass of circular needles inherited from grandma. So I’ve ordered some more Addis in 40cm lengths. I hope they arrive tomorrow because it’s really annoying me that I cannot knit one freakin’ hat without trouble right now.

No other knitting has taken place so I leave you with a picture of my bedspread. Why? *shrug* I like my bedspread and my bed, but they haven’t liked me much lately (read: insomnia).
