About

For the most part, I taught myself to knit in September or October 2005. Back when I was in the single digits my mom showed me how to knit because I was always doing “art projects” and liked to craft. I knitted what amounted to a swatch that measured something like 4″ x 2.5″ and never did it again. Then in 2002 a friend tried to teach me to knit, but it failed because she made me feel awkward since I was doing that twisted stitch thing. So I put the needles down.

Like a lot of knitters (most?) I am a perfectionist so I have yet to do a substantial piece of knitting. I desperately want to, but it just hasn’t happened yet. Part of it has to do with my very slow method of knitting (English) so I get bored quickly and pick something else up. Maybe I need to realise that while a raglan in stockinette should be quick & easy, I get too distracted because it is rather boring. I should maybe just bite the bullet and knit something that requires me to pay attention. Hmmm.

And if you’re after the more personal information, I’m a digital librarian by day (that means I deal almost exclusively in electronic resources) and live in Oxford, UK with my two cats. I am originally from the California central coast and have been enjoying the perks of living abroad - lots of relatively inexpensive travel to continental Europe and Northern Africa! [I still don't get the corn on pizza or in sandwichs thing though.] I also enjoy photography and keep telling myself that I’ll start making some simple, beaded jewellery again, but the damn knitting keeps getting in the way.
