Northern Whale

Thank you to Jillian who volunteered her time to make the modified-Kittyville hat for my sister. I’m so lucky to have “met” so many kind people via the knitting world. My sister will be really pleased.

I’m having trouble getting motivated to finish up the packing. I mean I obviously have to do it, but for the most part, the big stuff has been done and it’s down to the minutiae which means just chucking stuff into various boxes. The biggest thing I’ve got left to do is wrap up all my framed artwork and pack up the pots and pans (I don’t have many).

I just can’t get myself up and doing everything else right now. I’m not really tired today, just feeling lazy. I suspect that as usual I will have spurts of doing stuff for 30 minutes or so, I’ll sit down knit a few rows, get up and do something else, and then tonight is when I’ll get the motivation to do a bunch of stuff.

Last night I turned the heel on the second Laburnum sock and this morning I started picking up the stitches w/ the Harmony DPNs. I think I might have to start another sock even though I don’t really want to do this. The Harmony’s are pointy, but not quite enough to do the k3tog. I mean they probably are, but I’m not really interested in it taking me a minute to do one stitch because I can’t get the needle quite in there without tearing at the stitches or feeling like the needle will snap. Shame as I could’ve probably made quite a lot of progress on the 10-plus hour flight. I’ll try again and maybe get a rhythm going and it will be okay.

I just read the terms of the removal and storage people. They won’t accept wine/spirits. I wonder why. I understand the hazardous materials although maybe they aren’t meaning normal household quantities of cleaning agents. Hmm, predicament…

Jillian beat me to it! But I have plenty of grey cashmerino aran should she need anything to knit up.

Also, maybe they won’t take booze in case you are setting up a small business from the storage place. Because that’s clearly what you intend to do.

When you come oop nooorth I’m officially offering to take you yarn shopping anyway (Coldspring and Holmfirth?) and see if we can’t find you some sock yarn/needles to expand on the collection and support the habit up here.

Sorry to have been away so long - health issues, but all is pretty okay these days.
You know, k3tog is a pain, I often k2tog, pull kind of snuggly, put that st back on the left needle and knit it with the next st as a k2tog and there you have fashioned a k3tog, but in an easier, faster fashion - works like a charm ;)

G’day (well as good as it can be)! Came here from Sknitty’s blog. Terribly sorry about your sister - cancer is a cow of a thing (my Mum and her sister died nearly 20 years ago of it).
I think they won’t move alcohol cos they don’t know the value and they often won’t ship valuable things/antiques/etc - you could have a heap of Grange Hermitage or something.
The K3tog - try knitting the first stitch, slip it back to the left needle and then slip the next two stitches over the one you just knitted. make sense? (assuming you knit English style not continental). It is a sorta slow way to do it but works and looks like a K3tog, and might not be as slow as dropping many stitches or just fighting them /busting a needle.
Wishing you all the best during this testing time!
