Bad news

I called the vet to give him an update. He was just getting ready to ring me with the results of samples he took. My poor kitty has squamous cell cancer (graphic pictures) in her lip. It’s localised and won’t spread to other areas/organs, but it will continue to grow. The vet said he’d never seen it like this as it normally shows up on the tip of the ear or nose so they’re able to remove it; unfortunately, they can’t remove the growth of hers since it would remove her lip (creepy). He said that it’s not actually a painful lump, but of course as it grows it may cause difficulty. Radiotherapy may be an option, but she’d have to go to a treatment centre elsewhere in the country and it may not help (also it would be ridiculously expensive as you might imagine) and would likely be uncomfortable for her. He told me that in instances like this they just let the pet live their life and as the condition worsens to do what is needed to make the animal as comfortable as possible until they can’t do anything else and the animal needs to be put down. I don’t know how long it may be before the growth becomes cumbersome, but I’m inclined to let her live her life as it is and keep her happy until it’s no longer possible. Poor, kitty.

i’m so sorry to hear this.

Oh my gosh, Shannon. My heart is breaking. I am so sorry, so very sorry. Please tell me if there is anything I can do.

I’m sorry to hear that. I lost a dog to cancer a few years back and I know how hard it is. It’s good you have a vet who is promoting the “keep them comfortable” treatment. I’ve been through radiation with a pet. I will never, ever do that again. Ever.

Poor kitty and poor you :( You have my every sympathy :(

Big hugs xxxxx

Shannon, I am so sorry for you both, huge hugs to you and tickles to Trigger

poor kitty indeed. this is sad news. it’s probably for the best that she be allowed to live her life as is. poor you too!

I am so so sorry to read this. It’s so hard when there is nothing more they can do. I hope Tigger will be OK during your move, etc.
