Panta / headband

finished headbandWith my failures, I wanted something that I could make, hopefully. I had bought some yarn in Germany sort of with the intention of using it for a particular hat pattern that I’d made, but used a poor substitute yarn. I started a swatch and found it really knitted up nicely so I wanted to be sure it got used with a pattern that showed off how nicely this yarn looked! But I also wanted something simple.

Enter the panta or headband. Panta is apparently the Finnish word for headband - don’t quote me on that - this third hand information. I learned about this via a LiveJournal post and found the pattern. It knitted up quickly, but I did make a first attempt, ripped it out, and made a second attempt that was eventually completed. This was because I had read many of the pages of the forum where this pattern was posted and had decided to try to do my own thing to make it smaller since the original pattern would very likely engulf my head. In the end I followed a pattern for a skinnier version I found in the forums (there’s several variations, just have to search around!).

I was thinking it was going to be too small, but in the end, it fit, but after a few wearings just about the house, it stretched too much for my liking. I don’t think it ever looked that good on me anyway. Maybe I’ll try washing it and seeing if it will felt up a bit and therefore shrink. Oh and I think the reason everyone wears it ‘inside-out’ is because the increases are so visible on the side that primarily shows knit stitches, but maybe that’s just mine…
The details:
